In a move some saw coming, Ford Motor Co announced today that it will be giving the axe to pretty much its entire car lineup in North America to make room for a brave new SUV/crossover world. Save for one car: the Ford Mustang.
Well, two if you count the new Focus Active, but that’s really a small crossover and the story just sounds way better if the Mustang’s the sole survivor…carrying on.
While this is a HUGE development, it’s hardly a surprise to anyone that knows how business works: American consumers have voted with their dollars and it turns out we love us some chubby SUV’s and crossovers. Sedans, not so much.
But thank Baby Jesus we also like doing smokey burnouts, something the Mustang is quite accomplished at.
So, while I have a feeling we’ll come to our senses at some point (oil crisis anyone?), it looks like its bye-bye for Ford cars in the near-term. Not sure on exactly when this plan will be put into effect and, if I’m honest, I’m too damn lazy to look it up…but the clock is definitely ticking on Ford cars.
Except for our Golden Pony.
